The last plate in the series 'Six Drawings illustrating Théophile Gautier's Romance Mademoiselle de Maupin by Aubrey Beardsley', published by Leonard Smithers, London 1898.

This drawing was originally intended as an illustration to 'Ben Johnson, his Volpone: or the Foxe', published by Smithers in the same year.

E.416 to 421-1972: From a portfolio of photograuvres from an uncompleted set of illustrations, issued in an edition of 50, with a folio letterpress comprising title-page printed in black and red, colophon and list of plates, in greenish-grey paper boards, half bound in green-blue cloth with greenish-black tapes. The colophon numbered in ink '13' and signed 'L.S. & Co.'
