By the mid-1960s, the boutiques of the King's Road and Carnaby Street had spread to Kensington, where Biba and Bus Stop were located. Lee Bender opened Bus Stop in a former grocery store on Kensington Church Street, next door to Biba, and went on to develop a successful chain of twelve boutiques across the UK.
Bender's early designs looked back to the 1940s, with accentuated shoulders and waists. This sweater, designed with a traditional Fair Isle pattern, brings a wartime look up to date.
