A POTTERY WORKSHOP Opaque watercolour on paper Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu 1840-50 IS.7-1990 This painting provides a detailed depiction of a potter’s workshop in Thanjavur. On the left a man is making domestic cooking stoves. In the centre two figures are increasing the size of the clay pots by beating them with flat wooden paddles. On the right a woman is applying red slip (liquid clay) to the outside of a water pot.(27/9/2013)
