Linen sampler embroidered in coloured silks in cross-stitch, Algerian eye stitch and back-stitch. The alphabet is stitched along the top row and on the second row are the letters 'CDE' and part of the letter 'F'. The central motif is an octagonal device filled with geometric shapes. From each edge of the octagon spring conventional floral motifs. Below are the letters 'T' and 'G' and between them a device of flowers, crown and heart which again contains the initials 'TG' and the date '1560'. The sampler is embroidered in green, red, blue and pink silk threads.

Object history
Despite the date 1560, the sampler probably dates from the 19th century. Rosalie Sloof, Researcher, Fries Museum, Leeuwarden suggested that it was not necessarily from Friesland, Netherlands as previously thought.
