Object history | In April or May 1837 Dickens wrote excusing himself for not seeing a friend who called at Doughty Street because 'I was sitting for my portrait to George Cruikshank...and George being a ticklish subject could not leave him'. The sketch show him when he was beginning to be know as an elegant man-about-town. |
