Furnishing Fabric
1933 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This warp-printed textile was manufactured by the Calico Printers’ Association in 1933. The repeat pattern of blocks, circles and waves with stippling is characteristic of modernist designs of the time. Warp printing is a method by which the warp of the fabric is printed prior to weaving. The coloured threads are then interwoven with a monochrome weft. This breaks up the solid outline of the colour mass and produces a soft, blurred outline. Warp prints were popular in the early to mid 1930s.
