Object history
This drawing is a preparatory sketch for hand-painted tile panels in one of the original Museum refreshment rooms - the Grill Room or Dutch Kitchen, designed by Poynter and completed in 1870. This drawing depicts 'November' for the Months of the Year series. The finished decorative panels were hand-painted by female students of the Kensington School of Art and Design, a special class being set up for this project in 1868.
