  • Warming pan with Venus and Cupid 1602 Warming pans filled with hot coals were passed between the bed sheets to heat them up. Although the goddess of love decorates this example, an inscription in Dutch explains that it is suitable ‘for women who haven’t got a man who can warm their feet for them’.
