Twelve tiles with stencilled interlace decoration in blue and black, Gonzalez Valls, c.1850-51
Physical description
Sixteen tiles. Decorated with a stencilled interlace design in blue and black.

Object history
The tiles were found in the museum, but are recorded as previously belonging to the collection Illustrating Construction and Building Materials in the South Kensington Museum (see references). The tiles had previously been exhibited in the Great Exhibition, 1851.
The tiles were apparently removed from the original manufacturer's frame around 1990, due to its condition. A photograph taken at the time suggests that the tiles were fitted into a frame containing sixteen tiles in a 4x4 formation, with these twelve tiles forming a block, and a further four tiles forming a border along one side.This certainly included C.100-1998, but seems highly likely to have also included the three additional marbled tiles (C.96, 97, & 99-1998).
