Pierre Chareau (1883-1950) designed this block-printed linen furnishing fabric during the 1920s. Its repeats resemble Surrealist doodles. Chareau was a modernist architect who also designed furniture, particularly wood and metal pieces. He was a founder-member of the Union des Artistes Modernes, which was established in 1928. The group was at the forefront of 1930s design.
