This tazza or plate was designed and made by Charles Schneider (1881-1953). Between 1905-1910 he worked for a number of French glassworks and in a variety of styles. These included Venetian-style free-blown glass and pâte de verre (glass paste). In 1911 he founded his own glassworks, the Verrerie d'Epinay-Schneider (later Cristallerie Schneider) in Epinay-sur-Seine. This design appears in the glassworks' catalogues for 1918-1922 as number 20 of 27 'Coupes à pied noir' (cups with black feet).

This design appears in the catalogues for 1918-22 as number 20 of 27 'Coupes à pied noir'. Schneider studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. Between 1905-10 he worked in various glassworks including Daum Frères in Nancy, his family's home town and then a centre for art glassmaking. At this date his glass was in a variety of styles and techniques including Venetian free-blown and pâte de verre and he also made designs for bronze articles, continuing this side of his design work throughout his life, parallel with glassmaking. |
