One of a range of designs for industrially-made ceramics and glass by contemporary painters and other artists, an experiment aimed at improving British industrial design conceived as a result of the Gorell report into the subject, 1933. All the glassware was made by Stuart & Sons. This glass was included in a post-war British Council travelling exhibition in Canada and the USA, arranged by Lady Cecilia Sempill, formerly of Dunbar Hay, a shop selling modern design during the late 1930s. The ceramics and glassware made for the experiment under the direction of T A Fennemore of Brain & Co., were shown first at Harrods, 1934 and then more fully at the exhibition 'British Art in Industry', Royal Academy, London, 1935
