This panel was designed for a religious setting such as a church or monastery. It depicts the Crucifixion, with the traditional image of the crucified Christ set between the figures of the Virgin Mary and St John the Evangelist. The skull by the side of Mary represents the Hill of Golgotha on which Christ is believed to have died.
