Physical description
White bone china mug decorated with lithographic underglaze images of clowns. On the base is the head of a traditional Auguste clown, with typical bald head and tufts of red hair at the sides, and trademark red nose and lips surrounded by white make-up, delineated in black. On the back of the mug there is a similar image. The main image on the front is a seated clown juggling red, yellow, blue and violet balls. This is more a fantasy clown, with a blue and white face, bright red lips, red nose and red hair, wearing a baggy white suit decorated with red, blue and yellow diamond shapes, and a large double ruff in two layers, red over yellow. This shape of mug is known by the manufacturers as a standerd 'Lancaster' mug.
