The costume consists of a violet and mauve striped dress worn under a grey high collared cape edged with black frills at the hem and neck. The figure also wears a hat decorated with bird wings and veil, and black shoes & gloves. She carries a handbag on her right wrist, and a parasol in her left hand.

Object history
This costume design by Maise Meiklejohn is part of an extensive collection of designs by the artist purchased by the Theatre Museum in 1990. The design was executed for a production of Arthur Wing Pinero's play "The Thunderbolt" performed at the Arts Theatre, September 16th 1945. The play was produced by Peter Streuli, and the cast included Mark Dignam as James Mortimore, and Chris Castor as Ann Mortimore.
