Physical description | A plaster mould for the front of the right wing of a figure of Victory forming part of the Prussian Service. |
Historical context | The female winged figures formed part of the Prussian Service, presented to the 1st Duke of Wellington in recognition of the Duke's achievements in the Battle of Waterloo. The service was commissioned by Frederick William III of Prussia from the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin. The figures were designed by Johann Gottfried Schadow (1764 - 1850), and executed by the master modeller Johann Carl Friedrich Riese (1759 - 1834). The plaster casts would have been prepared from Schadow's clay models. |
