Design of a circular window with a large central at the church of St Philip & St James, Oxford, depicting the Lamb of God surrounded by eight roundels showing scenes from the Gospels. All the circular designs are drawn in pen and ink and watercolour on circular pieces of paper which have been stuck onto a square mount of cream-coloured card. The area surrounding the circular designs is painted in brown watercolour to represent the outline of the rose window. There are three additional circular designs above and there is one semi-circular design beneath the rose window.
There is a slight design of a five-lobed leaf on the back of the mount.

Object history | This stained glass design (one of 32) was in the collection of the late B.D.H. Miller who bequeathed them to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Timothy Wilson, Keeper of Western Art, Ashmolean Museum gave them to the Victoria and Albert Museum. The designs were lot 320 in the sale of the contents of Towne Furlong Farm, Phillips, Oxford, sales catalogue, Thursday, 13 June 1991. The design is for a rose window in the South transept of St. Philip and St. James's church, Oxford. |
