Place of origin |
Turkish-born, London-based designer Rifat Ozbek is noted for his use of vivid colours and ornamentation on classic silhouettes, drawing on diverse cultures for inspiration. This ensemble debuted as part of Ozbek’s Autumn/Winter 1992 collection – the same year he was awarded ‘British Designer of the Year’ by the British Fashion Council for a second time. The collection featured Ozbek's reimagining of classic men's tailoring, the cut and ornmentation recalling military uniforms; unexpected flourishes came in the form of colour-blocked velvet and feather adornments, with looks further feminised by the juxtaposition of a body-conscious bottom-half, achieved via leggings, high-waisted shorts, or slim-fit pencil skirts. On the catwalk, this jacket was presented with black leggings, white boots, and had additional feathered cuffs.
