Physical description | Hand-raised Britannia silver vase chased with plant forms and oak leaves with inlaid gold decorations. The vase is composed of eight panels, curved in cross section and shaped as an irregular trapezoid with the bottom edges curved, decorated alternately with a dense pattern of oak leaves, chased and 24 carat gold inserts, representing acorns, each of these chased panels flanked by a plain panel which bears an individual component of the hallmark. The surface left hammered and softly planished. The outline of the vase swells outwards and tapers inwards towards the top and the base. The base circular flaring outwards to meet to meet the panelled sections of the main body. The underside of the base is decorated with a chased medallion of stylised oak leaves. The interior of the vase, gilt. |

Marks and inscriptions | Hallmarked for Edinburgh 2001 and the maker's mark of Michael Lloyd, MKL in a rectangular lozenge over 958 in an oval lozenge, the date letter b for 2001, the town mark for Edinburgh and the mark of Britannia for the Britannia standard.
