Design of three window lights for Dronfield church, Derbyshire. Each light depicts part of the same parable. The first light depicts a labourer carrying a hoe and holding out a hand. The central light depicts the vineyard owner who stands facing the labourer and holding a bag of money. There is a vine and a tub filled with bunches of grapes in the background. A grape-picker cuts a bunch of grapes form a vine in the right-hand light. The design is drawn in pen and ink and painted in watercolour and mounted onto a small rectangular piece of card.

Object history | This stained glass design (one of 32) was in the collection of the late B.D.H. Miller who bequeathed them to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Timothy Wilson, Keeper of Western Art, Ashmolean Museum gave them to the Victoria and Albert Museum. The designs were lot 320 in the sale of the contents of Towne Furlong Farm, Phillips, Oxford, sales catalogue, Thursday, 13 June 1991. The design is for Dronfield church, Derby. |
