Object history
This costume design by Michael Warre is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the theatre designer Alix Stone in 1994. The design was executed for a production of William Shakespeare's play "Richard II" performed by the Old Vic Company at the New Theatre on April 23rd, 1947. The cast included Alec Guinness as Richard II, Ralph Richardson as John of Gaunt, and Harry Andrews as Edmund, Duke of York. The production was produced by Ralph Richardson, the music was composed by Herbert Menges, and the lighting was by John Sullivan. Alix Stone made the armour and costume accessories for the production.
