He stands on a simple base which may represent the brick associated with his legend. This rests upon a tiered base decorated with lotus petals and hatchings typical of bases from South India.

Object history
Bought from the William Tayler collection in 1874. The South Indian Museum purchased over 1,000 miscellaneous Indian objects from William Tayler, who went to India in 1829 retiring to England in 1867. Tayler collected pieces for his ‘Indian Museum’ while Postmaster-General of Bengal (1845-50) during which he recorded in his published memoirs that he had visited ‘almost every station in Orissa and Bengal’, as well as ’Darjeeling, Simlah and Nepal’.
