Figurine of a dancer in Ukrainian dress (official title Dancing Ukrainian) which was made in the Korosten Porcelain Factory, glazed porcelain, made mid-20th century. The figure was modelled by Valentina Tregubova. At the time of the figure's creation, Ukraine was under Soviet domination, hence it was previously catalogued as a Russian dancer. It features in a number of books on Ukrainian porcelain art. The figure was included in the Cyril W. Beaumont collection that was left to the V&A at his death.

Physical description | Glazed and painted porcelain dancing figure with painted features, standing on a roughly circular base with right leg forward and arms outstretched, wearing stylized Ukrainian folk dance costume, with an embroidered vyshyvanka and a head-wreath of blue flowers, with long tails to back and orange and gold ribbons over the left shoulder, deep bluish green sleeveless and collarless jacket decorated in gold, long full gathered white sleeves decorated with orange flowers and 'smocking' accented with blue dots, white underskirt with deep blue overskirt, white apron decorated with geometric pattern in orange, gold and blue, and orange boots. Right hand missing. |
