Keith Day Pearce Murray, a New Zealander trained as an architect. During the 1930 when architectural commissions were scarce he made designs for Stevens & Williams glass (from 1932), Wedgwood ceramics ( from 1932-3) and Mappin & Webbb silver (from 1934). This monumental vase was shown in the international exhibition, Paris, 1937. This type of flat-cutting is associated in Britain with glass of the early 19th century. As Keith Murray acknowledged both British and Swedish glass as influencing his designs, the small Orrefors vase nearby (6398), of 1934, makes an interesting comparison.
