Cow Jacket

Jacket
1998 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A long sleeved, wide collared waisted jacket, machine knit by hand on a domestic machine using the jacquard technique with two yarns in one row, black wool and clear nylon thread. When the knitting was completed, the pieces were dipped in a bath of pulp made from paper pattern tissue, on a flat meash mould, coating the knitting. The knitting was then taken out of the pulp bath and the nylon areas given a second coat. The knitting was put on a flat mould to dry. Just before the moisture has evaporated, the pulp is peeled away from the wool areas. The fabric was backed with iron-on interfacing and machine and hand sewn and lined.
