The 19th century saw a brisk trade in flowers made of paper, silk or feathers. Used in fashion and décor, the flowers were often made by Italian manufacturers. Agostino and Gaspero Gatti were Italian-Swiss immigrants who had a shop in London. Assembling the flowers were sale was low-paid work usually done by women and girls. This kit was probably produced for middle-class women who wanted to make their own flowers at home.
