Projected costume design for Richard Howard as Tybalt. The design depicts a three quarter length male figure wearing a "renaissance" style costume. The costume consists of a heavily patterned brown jacket with short sleeves worn over a high necked prussian blue tunic. The left sleeve of the tunic is decorated with a gold embroidered coat of arms. The figure also wears a codpiece & a pair of grey tights; a pair of black gauntlets; and a sword worn on a belt around the waist.

Object history | This costume design by Alix Stone is part of an extensive collection of designs purchased by the Theatre Museum directly from the artist in 1994. The design was executed for a production of William Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet", performed at the Young Vic Theatre, February 23rd 1977. The production was directed by Denise Coffey; lit by Mike Alvey and Jenny Cane; and the fight scenes were arranged by Derek Ware. The production starred Simon Chandler and Natasha Pyne as Romeo and Juliet. |
