Object history | It is possible that this design and E.2013-1952 were submitted by Parker & Perry in 1814 for the illumination of the gothic additions to Carlton House made by J. Nash and T. Hopper. H. Clifford Smith on p. 115 of Buckingham Palace, London, 1931, refers to Parker & Perry providing ‘4 Hexagon Gothic Lanterns’ for Carlton House in 1814. W. H. Pyne in Royal Residences, London, 1819, Vol. 3, illustrates the conservatory of Carlton House in the plate to face p.88 which shows lanterns similar to these in position.’ |
Production | One of a series of drawings (E.2009-2014-1952) executed by the firm of Perry &Co. (formerly Parker & Perry) established in London by Mr. William Parker in the mid-18th century, which supplied lighting appliances, inter alia to the Royal Palaces and Residences. The company continued in existence until 1925. For later designs made for Perry & Co., see the volumes and drawings by Bartlett and J. Wateridge, the donor of these drawings. |
