The woman, her arm through his, holds a small dog and a small basket bag, and is wearing a yellow and green plaid shawl and a pink skirt caught up to show a red and black striped crinoline. Both look bedraggled. In the background a woman holding a hatbox or a canister is shown with a handkerchief to her mouth.
