Object history | The copperplates are preserved in the Chalcographie du Louvre, Paris. The National Art Library purchased 4327 prints from the Chalcographie in 1855, which have since been transferred to the Department of Prints and Drawings. This seems to be one of the engravings of Old Masters ordered by the Louvre in 1848, in order to increase the collections of the Chalcographie. It may have been copied from an earlier engraving from Jean Matthieu (1749-1815), which shows the same scene but reversed. |
