The frame is of untreated iron rod welded together, seat and back are composed of woven cane. The seat support is made up of webbed strips of rubberised canvas attached to the iron frame of the seat by reugularly spaced steel pins. The seat and back cushions are made of Dunlopillo foam rubber covered in a loose weave yellow linen rep.

Object history | The 'Mambo' chair won the Pireeli National Chair Design Competition in 1955. The competition was sponsored by Pirelli, who made the rubber foam cushions and webbing. The prize was presented to Michael Inchbald by Hugh Casson who later used the chairs in a room setting 'Flat 56' at the Ideal Home Exhibition in 1956. The chairs were not then attributed to Michael Inchbald. |
