Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This original fashion illustration, signed simply "MARQUIS", was probably drawn for a newspaper or magazine to accompany a fashion article. It shows an elegantly dressed woman in a late 1930s coat with a swinging swagger back and a deep fur hem and a smart black hat and skirt standing at an open window, glancing to her side towards a decorative stand which is made in the form of a little black boy in a turban holding aloft a little vase of flowers.
