The Royal Family are shown wearing costume of the mid-17th century, standing against a landscape and column in the background The king stands at the centre, leaning on the base of the column, while Queen Charlotte is seated in a chair to the right, with the two princesses. On the left are the four princes: the eldest, Prince George and Prince Frederick, are standing behind Prince Edward, who is seated and playing with a dog, and Prince William, who stands holding a cockatoo. In the landscape behind them is a statue of two male figures. Behind Queen Charlotte is an ermine-lined robe, hung over her chair, and a table with a crown, orb and sceptre on it.
