At the top of the sheet are views of the cities of Sparta (left) and Athens (right), and a map of the Peloponnesian peninsula. At the bottom of the sheet, beneath the lettering, is a cartouche containing a portrait of Thucydides, flanked on either side by scenes containing groups of figures and a depiction of a battle.
