Object history | These prints are embroidery transfers for a blackwork border of which there are many English examples, dating from 1575-1650, in the Textiles and Dress Department. It is interesting that these transfers of the 1940s-1950s reproduce early 17th century English blackwork embroidered linen. These transfer prints were ironed onto fabric ready for embroidering the transferred pattern. The donor remembers her mother ironing such transfers onto fabric ready for embroidering the pattern. |
