During the1960s in London Gordon Deighton was the Fashion Coordinator of the very popular ‘Trend’ department of Simpsons of Piccadilly. There he designed and sold stylish menswear within a somewhat staid department store setting. In one ensemble, Deighton combined a pair of blue silk-tie-dyed trousers with this pink cotton shirt with eyelet front. The pale colours and a playful application of the tie-dye technique demonstrate an increasing sartorial choice available to young British men. Deighton said of his design aesthetic, ‘I suppose it boils down to a question of taste and my own standards of colour, fabric and design.’
