Part of a" collection of Musical Instruments, manufactured in Pazoongdoung, the Burmese quarter of the town of Rangoon. Procured by Moung Shway Zo. Thougyee of Pazoondoung". Catalogue of the Indian Court, International Exhibition 1872; p. 178

Historical significance: Traditionally used in chamber music ensembles with the thro (violin); mi-gyaung (crocodile zither) & patala (xylophone) or to accompany vocal presentations.
