Object history
The engraving appeared in Volume 20 (1846) of the literary magazine Bentley's Miscellany, alongside an article by Everard Clive titled 'Jugurtha and Abd-El-Kader'. A footnote to the engraving reads: 'We are indebted for this portrait to M. Rozetti, a young artist in the French service, who sketched it from life while a prisoner in the Emir's camp.'
