Place of origin |
Rushton Aust is a leading British artist who specialises in exuberant, large scale printed and painted textiles. He creates site specific, free-hanging textile structures in which the relationship between the elements of fabric, colour, image and setting is closely interlinked. In the last few years he has worked on a number of architectural commissions in public spaces, including schools, hospital and libraries. The purpose of this hanging was to generate a sense of drama in the V&A's Textile Study Rooms (Gallery 101) and to animate the space by adding colour and elements of contemporary technology, while working with the immediate architectural surroundings.
