A bureau-cabinet decorated with red and gold japanning imitating lacquer. The upper part has a broken pediment and mirror glass in the doors. The lower part has a fall-front and two small, three long drawers. The japanning in good original condition inside. The leather is replaced on the fall-front. The arches over the pigeon-holes in the interior look as though they have a different surface and might be replacements.

Object history | From the collection of Mrs Percy MacQuoid, Yellow House, Palace court, sold Christie's 30th June 1925. Illustrated in the Connoissuer magazine June 1925. Given to the V&A by Frederick Howard Reed, in 1953 (see Registered File 53/3610). Mr Reed, who lived at 3 Berkeley House, Hay Hill, Berkeley Square, London, was a considerable collector of English 18th-century furniture. |
