Burmese/Shan khwet (bowl) of bamboo basketry from Kengtung. Coated with black lacquer embellished with figurative and floral motifs of gilded thayo (moulded lacquer) work. ca. 1940s.

Previously given a probable date of 1920-1930. Redated to 1940s by Daw San San Maw; Ministry Archaeology, Rangoon, 1994.
An English sugar bowl shape and probably produced for the European market. Ralph Isaacs March 2001.
