Object history
Anne Shirley was the character in the book 'Anne of Green Gables' and its sequels by L M Montgomery.
Doll first featured in the 1935 FA O Schwarz Toy Catalogue for 1936. Called both Anne Shirley and Anne of Green Gables. The bodies were later used with other doll series. Reissued after 1950 in plastic.
Historical context
Effanbee Doll Corporation founded 1910, Bernard E Fleischaker & Hugo Baum, New York. Started making dolls in 1913.
