Carved mahogany. Wide open back with moulded spiral uprights, serpentine cresting rail carved acanthus leaves centering in a pendant of husks. Partly pierced vase splat, bordered with raised foliated scrolls, rising from shoe-piece carved rococo scrolls centering on a cabochon ornament. Arms of serpentine form, terminating in volutes. Leaf carved cabriole legs having paw and ball feet. Cabriole back legs terminating in pad feet. Covered in red silk now badly frayed.

On acquisition the chair was covered in a green velvet.

This chair is of the same design as a set of 12 dining chairs from Wimpole Hall, Royston, Cambs. the seat of Viscount Clifden, and later in the Chrysler Collection.(Lots 531-2 Illustrated p.132 There are, however, slight difference in the detail of the carving.
