Full length female dancer with long plait, standing on corner of a tiled floor looking towards full length mirror, half of which can be seen on left. The dancer wears a stylised peasant dress, with white blouse, the puffed sleeves trimmed with blue bows, over which a square wide-necked bodice, the neck edged in blue with yellow trim, the body in carmine, with an elaborate floral decoration at front overlaid with lacing; the carmine calf-length skirt is banded around the hem in blue and black edged yellow, and at the front is a long apron with a loose blue ribbon tied in a bow at the waist; on the head is a lace edged dark blue mob cap and around the neck a black band with yellow brooch centre front. The flesh is tinted pink. The mirror back is green with wood tinted frame with yellow finials, and the floor is coloured in red, blue and yellow. Object history | The print shows Louise Pierson as Ida in the ballet 'La Latière suisse' (The Swiss Milkmaid), a ballet-pantomime in two acts arranged by Titus to music by Gyrowetz and settings by Ciceri, which was produced at the Théâtre de la Porte-Saint-Martin in Paris on 25 September 1822 with Louise Pierson and Pierre Aniel in the leading roles. The print came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest. |
