Gallery label | This imposing drawing is probably a study from life, made in the Tyrolean Alps (now Austria). The rocky motif appears in several paintings by Roelant Savery. He moved to the Dutch city of Haarlem when he was a child, but his work was influenced by the art and artists of the Southern Netherlands. They included his older brother, Jacob, and Jan Brueghel the Elder. |
