Production | According to the title page, the views were engraved by and under the direction of Thomas Milton. 'Views in Egypt ' was apparently originally issued in twelve parts. The first single volume was published by Bowyer in 1801, and included 49 plates and text: Abbey (369). An edition was published in 1805, and there may have been a French edition. ‘Views in Egypt’ also formed Vol.1 of L.Mayer, ‘Views in Egypt, Palestine, and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire’, published by R. Bowyer in 3 vols, 1804. The other two volumes, which were also first published separately, are ‘Views in Palestine’ and ‘Views in the Ottoman Empire’. In 1810, Bowyer added another volume to the series entitled ‘Views in the Ottoman Dominions’. Several selections from one or more of the volumes appeared. See Abbey, pp.316 20, and Searight Archive. |
