Leaf cut from a text of the oath sworn by Giovanni Batista Vittura, ‘Consigliero de Venetia del Sestier di Santa Croce', with on the presumed verso, a full-page miniature showing the councillor as a bearded man in red cloak trimmed with ermine kneeling before St Mark and touching a book preferred by the Apostle, with the Virgin and Child looking down from above, within a strapwork frame.
Miniature attributed to Alessandro Merli (mount annotated "style of Farinati").

From the collection of William Young Ottley (1771-1836); his sale, Sotheby's London, 11-12 May 1838; collection of Samuel Rogers (1763-1855): his sale, Christie and Manson, London, 28 April 1856 and following days, lot 1003; bought in 1856 by the Art Museum for £6.16.6, together with 3126 (inv. no. 3577-1856); transferred from the Art Museum in December 1863.
