Elizabeth Emanuel and her former partner David Emanuel received international acclaim for designing the dress worn by Lady Diana Spencer when she married Prince Charles in 1981. This dress shares the same full-skirted silhouette, but is actually composed of three separate pieces: a bustier, skirt and detachable train.(25/07/2012) |

Object history | This dress was auctioned by The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, purchased by Robert and Adriana Mnuchin and donated to the museum. It was worn by Elizabeth Hurley in the 1999 publicity campaign for Estee Lauder Historical significance: This ball gown typifies Elizabeth Emanuel's style which became world known when she designed Princess Diana's wedding dress in 1981. It is at the same time, both dramatic and fresh, with its tight strapless bodice, full skirt and beautifully hand painted silk. |
