Bronze plaque. Chinese; possibly Macao. Late 18th-early 19th century.
A small bronze plaque depicting the Madonna surrounded by a formalised cloud pattern in typical Chinese style. The Madonna is shown in relief with the head inclined to the figure's right and the hands clasped over the left breast. The figure is dressed in flowing robes in scraf-type headdress. A sunburst halo surrounds the head. The cloud scroll borders the base and the vertical sides of the plaque and terminates at the top in circular motifs containing images of the sun, on the left, and the moon, on the right. A hole is pierced in the top centre above the head of the Madonna.
