Box and lid of white earthenware with trasparent glaze splashed with green, over a white slip. Low body with spreading foot-ring. Flattened dome cover. Body and cover are moulded in the form of four pointed lobes. On top is an impressed flower pattern with eigth petals. The base is unglazed. Mark impressed on the base: the character 'zhang'.

Box and lid of white earthenware with trasparent glaze splashed with green, over a white slip. Low body with spreading foot-ring. Flattened dome cover. Body and cover are moulded in the form of four pointed lobes. On top is an impressed flower pattern with eigth petals. The base is unglazed. Mark impressed on the base: the character 'zhang'.

Object history
C.30 to 36-1952 are types repeatedly excavated at Changsha (Hunan province) and manufactured at Yo-chou. Similar pieces were displayed and discussed at a lecture given to the Oriental Ceramic Society in Feb 1952 by Dr. Isaac Newton, entitled "1000 years of potting in Hunan province."
